Non releasing Clutch
Hi
We got a 1970 Austin Mini with tuned 1275 engine. We got pre verto clutch.
We have replaced master sylinder, overhault slave sylinder, new clutch hose, new clutch pipe.
Clutch pedal is moving easy, and I have bled the system a numerous of times.
I can not get the clutch to release, when I check the plunger arm on the master sylinder, it seems like it does not return properly after I release the pedal. I must touch the pedal several times, and suddently the clutch is working..?

Sounds like you need to apply a bit of grease to the plunger and all the linkages.
Do you have the correct return spring on the slave cylinder?

Hello
I have now manage to bled the system and the arm is moving easy.
But I must press the pedal to the metal for the clutch to release. how can i adjust this?

Do you have an adjuster nut sticking out of the flywheel housing? Screwing that in, towards the engine, gives you more travel on the clutch pedal.

Grinding & screeching noise coming from clutch / flywheel
Thanks, no it doesn't stall and runs perfect with the clutch depressed, the clutch is just the normal type not verto - Orange diaphragm with turbo pressure plate and lightened steel flywheel (engine is around 120hp). Clutch release bearing is brand new is this something that normally blows? is there an uprated clutch release bearing i can get?

MOT FAILURE - PLEASE HELP!
Are you saying the clutch pedal is stiff when the engine is misbehaving? Sounds bizarre - but it's worth doing a simple visual check first (since someone's been working on the car recently) that it isn't something physically blocking the clutch release arm. If it's not that, then you've got to suspect the clutch release bearing .

No Clutch
Ive just fully reconditioned a 1275 Cooper s engine and had a similar problem. No Clutch. I would bleed the clutch to start off with. If that fails remove the clutch release arm and check for wear on the ball that fits into the release bearing plunger. If its worn (even a little) I suggest replacing it. Alternatively, bend the release arm in a little so that it provides more leverage on the clutch, if you get a little clutch then I again suggest the ball it worn.

It's almost certainly the clutch release bearing. No option but to take it apart, I'm afraid.

Whirring gearbox
If you're lucky it's only the clutch and release bearing on their way out.

Slipping Clutch
Ive just finished building a 1293 engine kit along with a S/C C/R gear kit and a new road clutch (plate, diaphragm spring, release bearing and pressure plate), I tried the car for the first time on Monday but unfortunately the clutch slip quite badly straight away as I accelerated down the road. Under gentle acceleration up to 30 it is ok, I tried to accelerate from a 30 limit to a 40 limit in 4th gear (only giving about 1/4 throttle) but the clutch slipped allot. Ive tried it on a duel-carriageway once (which was only about 1/2 mile long) where I accelerated gently to avoid the clutch from slipping and got to about 55mph and there was a slight burning smell which I thought may have been the clutch. We have checked the clutch arm and that is releasing ok and is adjusted correctly. Ive tried driving at a steady 30 in 4th and slowly depressing the clutch pedal, the pedal goes down about a 1/3 of the way before the clutch starts to slip so that must be releasing ok. We thought there might be oil seeping through the oil seal but then also thought this would take a while to get on to the clutch plate, if this being the case it wouldnt have slipped first time I went down the road. Please could someone give me some advice as to what might be wrong because my Dad and me are both confused. Any help or advice on this matter would be greatly appricated. Thanks and kind regards, Daniel.

Clutch Porblem
I had this with my non-verto clutch. For no reason, after doing an engine swap, I simply couldnt get the clutch to disengage. I took it to Southam Mini and Metro centre and they ended up having to bend the release arm to force the system to work! You could try this as a last resort, but its a bit drastic and needs to be done properly.

Re stiff Clutch
Hmmm, I have noticed on my J reg Cooper, when queueing in traffic with a lot of clutch use it is hard to push down after i have released it, I am very worried I may not get it down in time and nudge the car in front. any ideas chaps? it seems fine ordinarily, just when I having to push it down shortly after releasing it.

does the engine try to stall when the clutch is depresed(or only when its happy) sorry coulnt resist that one, seriously tho if it trys to stall then it sounds like the release bearing is siezing and just rubbing not spinning on the cover, incidently you didnt say if it was a verto or std type clutch?

High pitch squel!
I seem to have a squel problem. I think it might be to do with the clutch as it starts when i push it down, though it doesnt go away once i release the clutch. However it seems to go away when i accelerate, seems quite confusing maybe its just very simple. Though its not very nice driving along the high road with everyone staring!

problemo with clutch, if i release the pedal quickly i can hear a screech as the clutch engages. it is not slipping though, also it is extremely juddery on take up and i can feel a lot of vibration from the clutch side of the engine when driving along. no its not engine mounts or subframe cos they are all solid.. i had the bell house cover off there is no oil present, short of getting the clutch assy off has anybody got any ideas.. my ride is a sportpack with 32thou miles on it

Clutch issue // shudder
Hi all,
Im looking for an answer on why my clutch would work well on start-up.. but when the car warms up and ive been driving for a bit I start getting a shudder on releasing teh clutch after a gear change. Its like the clutch is coming up too quick (no jokes about my legs or driving please).
Im guessing teh clutch is going or needs adjusting - any ideas??
Ive got a mini city E. D reg... 86 998cc (i think)

I think something is sticking, so when you lift the pedal the clutch isn't releasing smoothy. Whether it's the plate itself, or just the hydraulics, I couldn't say. Could even be something silly like the lever arm needs greasing.
